Special Education at CM Prep

Coast to Mountains Preparatory Academy (CM Prep) embraces the opportunity to serve all students.

Our school offers a special education program to help your student get the support they need to thrive in school and beyond.

The program supports students who are eligible through an incoming IEP/ISP or evaluation report. CMPA welcomes the opportunity to serve students with special needs. We exclusively use the K12 curriculum and believe it is vital that the parent and student recognize that this robust curriculum is used exclusively with and without the support of a special education teacher. The frequency and duration of the virtual support from the special education teacher will be defined during the Individual Special Education Plan (ISEP) meeting.

During the 23-24 school year, any student enrolling with speech/language or occupational therapy listed in his/her IEP, will receive virtual services as determined by the ISEP team. Beginning in the 24-25 school year, any related service will be the responsibility of the family to provide. The ESA+ scholarship is one source of funding available to families to help with these services.

Questions about special education services should be directed to the Special Education Administrator Sandi Brueck at sbrueck@K12.com.

Request for Parent/Guardian Interpreter Services or Disability Accommodations

Professional interpreter services may be requested at any time for parents/guardians of students with disabilities by contacting Sandi Brueck at sbrueck@K12.com.

Additionally, if any parent/guardian has a disability or other limitation that would impact their ability to participate fully in their child's educational planning process, CM Prep would be happy to discuss accommodations available to maximize the parent/guardian's participation. For this reason, individuals seeking to discuss accommodations may contact Sandi Brueck at sbrueck@K12.com.

Child Find

CM Prep will communicate with the resident district to identify, locate, and evaluate all enrolled children who may have disabilities. Disability, as stated in IDEA, includes such conditions as hearing, visual, speech, or language impairment, specific learning disability, emotional disturbance, cognitive disability, other health or physical impairment, autism, and traumatic brain injury. Identifying, locating, and evaluating these children is called Child Find. To comply with the Child Find requirements, CM Prep will help ensure that all CM Prep students with disabilities, regardless of the severity of their disability, who need special education and related services—are identified, located, and evaluated by their resident districts—including students with disabilities who are homeless or students who are wards of the state.

Parent/guardian permission and involvement are vital pieces in the process. Once a student has been identified as having a "suspected disability" or identified as having a disability by their resident district, CM Prep will ask the student or the student's parent/guardian for information about the child, such as:

  • How has the suspected disability or identified disability hindered the student's learning?
  • What has been done educationally to intervene and correct the student's emerging learning deficits?
  • What educational or medical information relative to the suspected disability or identified disability can be shared with the school?

This information may also be obtained from the student's present or former teachers, therapists, doctors, or agencies with information about the student.

All information collected will be held in strict confidence and released to others only with parental permission or as allowed by law. With this confidence, CM Prep will keep a record of all persons who review confidential information. Parents have the right to review their child's records per state regulations.

Special Education (IEP)

Once the evaluation process is completed by the student's resident district and eligibility has been determined, the resident district may offer an Individual Service Plan (ISP). At this point, CM Prep will complete an individualized special education plan (ISEP) for the student, indicating the special education program and accommodations that will be provided. The ISEP will be developed in collaboration with the student's parent/guardian.

Privacy & Confidentiality

CM Prep follows protocols to ensure students' records remain confidential within its central office and across school systems and databases.
